2021 Saint Lucian general election Frederick: 'Castries will have a new mayor'
Minister for Local Government Richard Frederick says he is not pleased with the Castries City Council (CCC) operations and restructuring the statutory entity. According to the government Minister, the operations of the CCC has been poorly managed, causing the organization to rely heavily on government support.
Frederick claims the CCC has ramped up substantial financial debt, as huge salaries are being paid to outside individuals to do work CCC employees can do. Frederick plans to restructure the entity and make it self-sustainable.
"Come the first of September; we will be seeing the face of a new mayor, a female mayor at that; I believe she will do well," Frederick said. While he opted to keep the individual's identity to himself, he says the incoming mayor comes qualified to head the CCC.
"She has a background in finance and environmental science, so this is what Castries needs at this time," he declared. The city, he says, is in dire need of a facelift and sustainable maintenance to improve the standard of living for citizens who patronize the city.
Frederick, who is also the parliamentary representative for Castries Central, promised to look into the issue surrounding the salaries of CCC employees.
"Frederick claims that monies are being deducted from employees to pay financial institutions for loans and other commitments; however, the institutions do not receive the payments on behalf of the employees.
"So I have given instructions to have this regularized to at least improve the comfort of the workers," he declared. According to him, workers, once comfortable, will be productive.
