T&T Coast Guard rescued 8 people from a sinking vessel in Grenada
The Royal Grenada Police Force is expressing concern over the number of incidents at sea involving vessels in distress.
Assistant Commissioner of Police John Mitchell says a month and a half ago, a vessel from Carriacou with persons became lost at sea.
Last week, on August 26, a vessel that left Trinidad, plying the route between Trinidad and Grenada, sank with eight persons on board.
The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard rescued all eight persons. That vessel, based in Carriacou, fell into trouble at coordinates 11.8 North, 61.38 West.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police says today he informed that another vessel is in distress 225 miles southeast of Grenada.
Commissioner Mitchell says this is telling, as, within a month and a half, there continue to be significant issues with vessels out there,
He says both the RGPF and Grenada’s Coast Guard advise fishers and persons to ensure they follow the required safety rules.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police adds that losing persons and vessels at sea is tragic, and the authorities do not want to see such incidents repeated repeatedly.
He was speaking during a police media briefing.
