A policewoman and her teen daughter were shot and killed in their apartment in Belize
Police are investigating the apparent murders of a 37-year-old colleague and her 17-year-old daughter, whose bodies were found in their apartment last weekend.
The authorities are working on the theory that Arilee Young and Sherana Cardenas were shot and killed by Glenford Perrott, a security guard who killed himself. Perrott is reported to have been the boyfriend of Young.
Police said that the 37-year-old Young and her sixth-form student daughter were shot last Saturday during the early hours. The grisly discovery followed a phone call to law enforcement authorities informing them that shots had been fired sometime after 3.00 am local time.
“We are still recording statements with regards to his movement. We know that one: he should have been on duty at that time because yes, he’s a security guard, but for some reason, he went back home,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood.
“We do not know if an argument ensued or what took place when he went back home, but yes, the weapon belonged to the company that he worked with,” the senior police officer told reporters.
But the authorities said that while they had made the report, the neighbours failed to inform the responding officers where the gunshots came from. Several hours later, it wasn’t until someone from a security company discovered something had gone wrong inside the house.
“The officers said, no one came out to the police. They were trying to establish where the shots were heard or which location was heard it. If they knew the exact location, why didn’t they call back the police and give an address? Logical. On the contrary, it was one person that visited that location, looked through a window, and called for the police,” Yearwood told reporters.
