After a plane crash in Haiti, two Richland Center men were dead
Two Richland Center men died in a plane crash that killed four others in Haiti on Friday.
Trent Hostetler, 35, and John Miller, 43, we're on a mission trip through the organization Gospel to Haiti, flying from Port au Prince to Jacmel when their plane crashed somewhere near Logan.
Darwin Hostetler, the organization stateside administrator and cousin to Trent, said it’s common for members of their group to take smaller planes or helicopters to avoid gang violence which can be a problem.
Trent, the group’s field administrator in Haiti, was with his pregnant wife and three children who caught an earlier flight to Jacmel.
His wife Erica and three children are still in Haiti, but the organization is working to bring them back safely.
“We are trying to find flights and find a way to get them out of Haiti for her to come home, but due to the unrest and the assassination of Haiti’s president yesterday, the airports have been closed,” said Darwin.
The group’s pastor did fly to Haiti Saturday to be with Trent’s family and is working on getting them and the bodies of the two Richland Center men home.
GoFundMe fundraisers have been set up for both men and have so far collectively raised over 175,000 dollars.
The cause of the plane crash is still under investigation.
