Antigua: Police shoot and kill escaped prisoner
Shanell Thomas’ escape from Her Majesty's Prison in Antigua and Barbuda was short-lived as cops shot and killed him last evening.
According to a statement from the Royal Antigua and Barbuda Police Force, Thomas was confronted by officers near Stables Night Club after they received information that he was in the area.
“The police identified themselves to him and ordered him to surrender. He instead withdrew an object from his waist and advanced towards them. The police took defensive action and shot him,” the cops said.
“He was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he was treated and later succumbed to his UV injuries. The Coroner was informed of the incident as [an] investigation continues into the matter.”
The 34-year-old Dominican national served time for many offences, including kidnapping and robbery, before escaping from prison on February 8.
