Antigua: V.C. Bird Intl. Airport to allow landings and take-offs
The Meteorological Office in Antigua and Barbuda has advised that the Tropical Storm Watch, issued on Monday, has now been lifted.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister says the danger from Tropical Storm Philippe has passed, except for some rain bands and intermittent gusts. That being the case, the Sir V.C. Bird International Airport will begin allowing landings and take-offs from 10 a.m. today.
All primary and secondary schools will remain closed today.
Except for essential workers, government employees are not required to report to work today. Private sector operations are free to open for business.
Giving an update on the impact of Philippe, reports are that flooding occurred in low-lying areas. The OPM says efforts will be made to assist those whose homes have been inundated by rainfall.
It is also reported that a fire destroyed significant property at Falmouth Harbour Marina triggered by lightning strikes. The Parliamentary Representative is already seeking to hold talks with the owners.
In addition, it was noted the Alfa Nero was moved on Monday to Heritage Quay and is not harmed.
Electricity will be restored little at a time to those affected by outages.
