AU Open overnight:Djokovic to return to Melbourne as Nadal and Kyrgios win
The only former champion to play the men's singles event in Melbourne this year, Rafael Nadal, is through to the quarter-final. At the same time, the past final winner on the women's side, Victoria Azarenka, was knocked out overnight at the Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic is set to be back in 2023, while Tennis Australia came under fire for confiscating a Peng Shuai shirt.
So far, the hottest day of the Australian Open has seen Rafa Nadal, Alex Zverev and Nick Kyrgios all in action, and Paula Badosa goes out after failing to handle the heat.
And two absent stars were still making news today even though they are not even Down Under this year, while another player has tested positive for Covid-19. Home singles hope Ash Barty is playing the first match in the evening session in the Rod Laver Arena.
