Bahamas: Davis reshuffles cabinet ahead of govt's second anniversary
Prime Minister Philip Davis has announced changes to his cabinet as his government prepares to mark their second anniversary.
Davis announced the changes in a national address last evening as he rolled out his government’s plans to implement the “Blue Print for Change”.
“In making these decisions, my priority was to strengthen policy execution and to balance continuity and experience with renewal and fresh perspectives. Cabinet is a team – and as on any team, individual strengths and talents add up to make the team stronger,” Davis said.
Pia Glover-Rolle will assume the newly constituted portfolio as Minister of Labour and Public Service.
Minister of State for Legal Affairs Jomo Campbell, will assume the Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources portfolio.
Zane Lightbourne will serve as Minister of State for the Environment in the Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources.
Basil McIntosh will take on the role of Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation.
Clay Sweeting, the Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, will now assume the portfolio of Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs from Alfred Sears.
Sears will lead the Ministry of Immigration and National Insurance.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal will fall under the leadership of Keith Bell.
Jobeth Coleby-Davis will assume the portfolio of Minister of Energy and Transport.
The prime minister did not add any new members from the Progressive Liberal Party’s parliamentary caucus, nor were any previous cabinet members removed.
Davis also plans to reassign permanent secretaries and civil servants across ministries and departments.
The complete list of cabinet adjustments will be revealed in the coming days.
