Bahamas leads the way for the Caribbean at First Global Challenge
Caribbean teams are showing that the small countries can hold their own against bigger and developed countries at the 2022 First Global Challenge robotics competition in Geneva, Switzerland.
The robots developed by Caribbean teams could win or draw match-ups with Japan, Hong Kong and the USA.
The Bahamian team, made up of Dereo Maycock, Sonet Archer, Zyontae Adderley, Tanae Johnson and Tyler Cambridge, is the highest-ranked Caribbean team at 18 with 165 points.
They are three points ahead of Germany and 218 points behind competition leaders Mexico.
Team Bahamas won two of their three matches and drew the remaining match.
Belize is the second-highest-ranked team at 21.
Puerto Rico and Antigua and Barbuda are ranked 42 and 45.
Jamaica, Bermuda, Cuba, Grenada, Suriname, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Kitts and Nevis and the Dominican Republic are the Caribbean teams competing at the 2022 First Global Challenge.
St Kitts and Nevis collaborated with Grenada and Japan today to pick up their first victory at the competition.
They defeated Ecuador, Columbia, and Guinea 37 to 27.
St Kitts and Nevis will partner with Hong Kong and Morocco tomorrow to face off against Luxembourg, Ukraine and Jordan.
