Bahamas: Man charged for assaulting 12-year-old niece
A 58-year-old man yesterday denied indecently assaulting his 12-year-old niece.
Prosecutors alleged that the man came into the girl’s bedroom on July 13 and kissed her on the lips.
The man, whose name has been withheld to protect the girl’s identity, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville.
The man said that he often kisses his nieces and nephews on their foreheads.
Serville granted the man $2,000 bail with one or two sureties on the condition that he leaves home, where his alleged victim lives.
The man said he worked as a diver and could live on the boat.
Although granted bail, the man said he had no one to sign it.
In tears, he begged the magistrate to consider granting him self-signed bail.
Serville refused the request and adjourned the matter to October 27 for trial.
