Bahamas sixth on list of most cost-effective tourist destinations
Travel insurance quoting engine Squaremouth has hailed The Bahamas as one of the top cost-effective travel destinations this summer during what it said has been a season of record travel cost increases.
Squaremouth said in a statement that it surveyed more than 4,000 travel insurance customers, and 73 percent of those who responded revealed they were more concerned or equally concerned about protecting their travel with insurance this summer as costs spike.
The site lists The Bahamas as the sixth of the ten most cost-effective destinations this summer.
“With summer well underway, travellers are experiencing what could be the most expensive summer travel season,” the statement said.
The Bahamas joins Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Aruba, Vietnam and the Philippines on the list.
Of the countries on the list, Colombia has the lowest average cost at $3,344, while the Philippines has the highest at $5,330.
The Bahamas’ average cost is $4,658.
“The cost of international travel specifically is up 25 percent from last year, leading many travellers to seek more affordable destinations,” Squaremouth said.
“As the cost of travel continues to rise, Squaremouth’s data reveals that travellers are actively seeking out more affordable destinations this summer.
“This year, seven out of the top ten most popular destinations have trip costs below the overall season average.”
Central Bank Governor John Rolle said this week that the upswing in tourism numbers in The Bahamas that occurred post-pandemic has begun to level off and has even dampened in the first half of the year compared to 2022.
Rolle said, though, that spending has gone up because average pricing in the industry has increased.
He said tourism earnings and the tourism industry seem to have more than recovered since post-pandemic.
