Bahamas: Teen charged with murder, attempted murder
A 17-year-old boy is charged with a shooting that killed one man and injured three others.
The juvenile, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of the murder of Chavez Jones and the attempted murders of France Dolce, Rotnel Geffrard, and Leroy Petty on June 27.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at Dean’s Lane around 10 p.m. According to initial reports, a group was gathered outside a business when the occupants of a car opened fire on the crowd, hitting the four men.
The shooting victims were rushed to the hospital, where Jones died.
The teenager was not required to enter pleas to the charges when he made his initial court appearance before Magistrate Shaka Serville.
He was remanded to the Simpson Penn School for Boys; however, he was advised of his right to seek bail in the Supreme Court.
The teenager will make his next court appearance on October 12. At that time, prosecutors are expected to serve a voluntary bill of indictment which will fast-track his case to the Supreme Court.
