Bahamas: Three police officers charged with murder
Three police officers will now be tried for murder in connection with the shooting death of suspect Danrico Carey.
Officers Archibald Miller Jr., Thomas Thurston Jr., and Lee Dormeus were committed to stand trial for murder concerning Carey’s death on November 13, 2021.
They were initially charged with manslaughter when they appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis on February 16.
Meanwhile, Officer Kevin Greenslade was also committed to stand trial on a new charge. He’s no longer charged with manslaughter and is now accused of causing dangerous harm to Carey.
The officers learned of the amended charges when they appeared before Magistrate Kendra Kelly yesterday to receive their voluntary bill of indictment.
The officers, who are on half-pay and suspended from duty, will be prosecuted before Senior Justice Bernard Turner on July 1.
They remain free on $9,500 bail.
The charges stem from a police-involved shooting at Matthew Street, Nassau Village.
Police were reportedly in pursuit of an armed suspect at the time of the shooting.
