Bahamas: Two men accused of sex crimes in custody

A 28-year-old man is accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl.
Jalan Tyrell Balfour, of Mitchell Street, allegedly touched the child’s breasts on August 18.
Balfour denied the charge at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.
The prosecutor, Sergeant 3605 Samantha Miah, will address the court on bail on September 1.
Balfour was remanded to prison in the interim.
He did not have a lawyer.
In another court, a 48-year-old man was accused of the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl who was yesterday committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court.
Prosecutors say Charles Canter, 48, of Pine Barren Road, had sexual intercourse with the girl on February 22. He allegedly had relations with the same girl between March 1 and 20.
When Canter appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney, he received a voluntary bill that transferred his matter to the Supreme Court for trial.
Canter, who is still in custody, said that he would provide his notice of alibi to the Office of the DPP within 21 days.
Canter will appear before Senior Justice Bernard Turner on October 22 for arraignment.
