Bahamas: Woman who was attending prayer meeting killed
A gunman who was in pursuit of another man on Robinson Road inadvertently shot a woman who was getting out of her car to attend a prayer meeting last night, police said.
ASP Audley Peters said that shortly after 7 p.m., police were alerted to reports of a shooting on Robinson Road and Ida Street.
When police arrived, they met a woman lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds.
Peters said she later died at the scene.
He said police learned that a group of people went to a home on Ida Street to collect a friend.
Peters said a man fled the scene, and a gunman, who started pursuing him, opened fire.
“As a result, he ran south on Ida street onto Robinson Road,” Peters said.
“He continued discharging, and as a result, a lady [who] was exiting her vehicle to attend a prayer meeting at the church… was shot in the chest and face several times.”
The man who sought to escape the gunman later collapsed on Washington Street and was later taken to hospital.
Peters said the gunman remains at large.
