Bahamian nationals evacuated from Israel
The Bahamas has said all of its nationals who sought help to leave Israel have been successfully evacuated.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the last Bahamian was evacuated on Monday from Tel Aviv via Athens on a repatriation flight organised by the Government of Canada.
Last week, Minister of Foreign Affairs Frederick Mitchell said three Bahamians had sought assistance from the government to leave Israel after the war broke out on October 7.
One Bahamian was able to leave Israel for Morocco, while basketballer Zane Knowles and another person remained in Israel.
The ministry thanked Canada for providing space for Bahamians on their repatriation flight.
“Repatriation requires complex logistical and security protocols. This latest effort underscores the importance of diplomacy for The Bahamas and the Davis Administration’s foreign policy agenda specific to consular and crisis,” the ministry said.
The ministry has advised Bahamians against travelling to Israel, the Occupied Palestinian territories and the wider Middle East as tension remains high.
Over 2,000 people have been killed in the fighting between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza.
