Belize land borders to reopen on New Year’s Day
The Government of Belize has announced that Cabinet has approved the reopening of land borders effective January 1, 2022.
The Cabinet says the health conditions applicable to such travel will be published shortly.
In April 2020, Belize had closed all ports of entry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In October 2020, the Philip Goldson International Airport was reopened, while the land borders were reopened to welcome tourists in May 2021.
Meanwhile, as the holiday season draws near, the Cabinet continues to encourage those not yet vaccinated to do so and reminds Belizeans who have been fully vaccinated for more than three months that booster shots are now available.
Cabinet was updated on the status of vaccinations and the number of vaccines available in Belize. More than 360,042 vaccines are currently available as of November 29, 2021, where 210,154 persons or 48.8 per cent had received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 197,739 or 45.9 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
