Bermuda: Man arrested after threats made to Premier

A man has been detained in Bermuda after police launched an investigation into threats and other menacing comments made on social media toward Premier David Burt during a live interview.

The Bermuda Police Service says officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit searched a Hamilton Parish residence this morning where a man, 34, was arrested and detained about this matter.

The police service notes persons should be mindful that threats, offensive, and other menacing acts towards anyone on social media may be contrary to the Electronic Communications Act 2011.

Persons committing such acts, if found guilty, may be imprisoned for one year or be fined $25,000 or both.
