Black Caribbean-American living in London describes 'passive aggressive racism'

A Black American expat living in London has described the "passive aggressive racism" she's experienced since moving here and claims Brits are much more subtle than in the US. In a TikTok video, content creator Jo Wong, going by the profile name @whoisjowong, shares her experience of what it's like being a Black Caribbean-American living in London.
In the video she states that the racism in London and in the UK is more "systematic", instead of being overt, which is what she has experienced in the US. In the video, Jo explains that living in the UK she's noticed the racism to be more "passive-aggressive".
She adds: "In the US, I'm used to someone being very straightforward and direct if they don't mess with me 'cause I'm Black or they are not happy with that. Whereas here [in London] it's done very systematically, so you will be questioning 'will I not be getting into the club cause I'm Black? Did somebody move seats next to me 'cause I'm Black?' Versus in the US, you know what it is."
Jo goes on to discuss the famous question, "where are you from, no, where are you really from?" many Black and people of colour face. This was infamously played out in The recent scandal involving the Royal family and the founder of Hackneys sista space She suggests this as another way people exercise their racism, claiming that people aren't asking her the question because she is American. She claims that those who have asked her in the past seem unsatisfied with the response that she is American.
Speaking about the camaraderie and community in the UK and the US when it comes to racism, she says that there is more unity amongst African Americans than Black people in the UK. However, clarifying in part two, she praises the diversity of backgrounds within the Black community in the UK and its wider diaspora saying that it took a little while for people within the community to warm up to her.
