Boatload of bodies discovered floating off the coast of Tobago
A boatload of people believed to be Venezuelan nationals was found adrift approximately six miles off the coast of Belle Garden Friday morning.
A police source told Guardian Media that approximately four to six people are on board the vessel and presumed dead.
The discovery was made while the fishermen were about to venture to sea to ply their trade.
A senior police official also indicated that they would use special personal protective equipment to retrieve the bodies, as the cause of death is unknown.
The boat eventually towed close to shore near the Belle Garden Beach Facility by the fishermen.
However, special heavy equipment has been requested to take the boat out of the water.
The bodies, all men, were in an advanced state of decomposition, police said in a statement, adding they were awaiting identification and subsequent autopsies to determine the causes of death.
Tobago Police are currently on the scene.
Investigations are continuing.
