BVI Election: Steady flow of voters at polling stations
There has been a steady stream of voters at polling stations across the British Virgin Islands.
Approximately 15,000 persons are eligible to vote in today’s General Election.
The polls opened at 6 am and will close at 6 pm.
One voter told BVI television station JTV, “It was good, and the process was very fast.”
Virgin Islands Party (VIP) candidate for District Eight, Allen Ludwis Wheatley, also spoke with JTV and was delighted to see the high voter turnout at polling stations such as the Willard Wheatley Primary School.
He is encouraging Virgin Islanders to exercise their franchise.
“I encourage everyone to exercise your right to vote. It’s very important right now, given all the post [Hurricane] Irma, post-pandemic, war in Ukraine and price increase, the Commission of Inquiry [issues]. We had so many things to deal with in the space of five years. It is time for a break; it is a time to vote and get a clean slate,” Wheatley stated.
Independent candidate Perline Scatliffe-Leonard also encouraged Virgin Islanders to participate in the polls, as she believes this is an opportunity for them to change the trajectory of the territory’s development.
“I want to encourage everyone to exercise their right. It is a four-year investment,” she told JTV.
