BVI establishes new Environment & Climate Change Ministry
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley will oversee the British Virgin Islands’ environmental protection and climate change response as he has adjusted ministerial portfolios.
Wheatley announced the creation of a new Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change yesterday at a press conference to update Virgin Islanders on his recent trip to the United Kingdom.
“I am pleased to report that we have established the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change as a ministry in its own right that stands separately from the Premier’s Office. I will serve as Minister over this portfolio,” Wheatley stated.
“This demonstrates the importance we assign to the environment and all the critical issues involved in its preservation and sustainable use, as well as the existential threat of climate change. I look forward to the Ministry’s establishment of a Department of Environment and Climate Change to respond to these needs.”
Apart from being premier and environment, natural resources and climate change minister, Wheatley is also finance minister.
