Caribbean leaders congratulate Grenada’s Dickon Mitchell on election
Leaders from across the Caribbean have issued congratulatory messages to Prime Minister-elect Dickon Mitchell, the political leader of the National Democratic Congress, on his victory in the June 23 general election.
Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, in her message to Mitchell, wrote: “On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, I wish to extend congratulations to Prime Minister-Elect of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, on his victory.
I look forward to working with you as we seek to transform our Caribbean region.”
In St Vincent and the Grenadines, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says he looks forward to working with the new government.
He wrote: “Congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Dickon Mitchell and the NDC on their remarkable victory in Grenada, on behalf of the ULP and the Government and people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. I look forward to working with the new government in advancing the regional agenda.”
Over in Dominica, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit wished Mitchell success.
He wrote: “ Congratulations to the Prime Minister-elect of #Grenada #DickonMitchell and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on emerging victorious in the June 23 general elections.
I wish Mr Mitchell every success as he forms a new government to lead the Grenadian people, and I look forward to working with him to advance the joint development goals of our region.”
Prime Minister of St Lucia Philip Pierre, in his congratulatory message to Mitchell, says the people of Grenada have spoken.
He wrote: “The people of Grenada have spoken. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will form the new government of Grenada.
On behalf of the government and the people of Saint Lucia, I wish to extend congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Dickon Mitchell and the NDC on their electoral victory.
You have an opportunity to shape your country's future in conformity with the collective aspirations of the people of Grenada.”
Mitchell, 44, and the NDC were victorious over the New National Party (NNP) in Thursday’s general election, winning 9 out of the 15 constituencies that were up for grabs in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
