Caribbean leaders congratulate Trump on re-election as US President
Caribbean leaders have congratulated Donald Trump on his re-election as President of the United States for a second term.
Preliminary results indicate that Trump is projected to win at least 277 of the 538 electoral college votes, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, while also securing the popular vote with 71.2 million votes or 51 per cent of all ballots cast.
Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader said he’s looking to work with Trump on matters of mutual benefit.
“I congratulate @realDonaldTrump on his significant electoral victory as the 47th President of the United States. The Dominican Government will continue to strengthen the warm and strategic ties between our countries in this new stage,” Abinader wrote on X.
Surinamese President Chandrikapersad Santokhi has hailed the election result as a reflection of the will of the American electorate, celebrating the democratic process. “The democratic process has been followed and the people of the United States have made their preference known. Suriname hopes that the new leadership in the United States will contribute effectively to peace and greater security in the world. As President, I look forward to the continuation of good bilateral relations between Suriname and the United States of America, led by President-elect Trump,” Santokhi stated.
Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis is hoping to continue the good neighbourly relationship between the USA and The Bahamas that has endured for several decades.
“Congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump. As neighbours and partners, The Bahamas and the United States share a unique bond built on friendship and respect. I look forward to working together to strengthen this relationship and building on areas of mutual interest,” Davis wrote on X.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the Jamaican Government remains a committed partner and looks forward to advancing shared values and goals with the incoming Trump Administration.
In a post on X, he said: “Congratulations President Donald J. Trump, @realDonaldTrump, on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America. Jamaica remains committed to strengthening our close and enduring partnership with the United States and looks forward to advancing the goals of growth, stability, and prosperity for our people.”
