Caribbean UKOTs formally proclaim King Charles III as Sovereign
The six British Overseas Territories in the Caribbean - Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands held proclamation ceremonies today declaring their new Sovereign, His Majesty King Charles III.
In Anguilla, Her Excellency the Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam read the Proclamation declaring the new Sovereign His Majesty King Charles III with the required pomp and ceremony.
In the British Virgin Islands, the Proclamation was read by Governor John J Rankin in a short ceremony to mark the occasion. It was marked by a 21-gun salute and the singing of the national anthem.
In the City of Hamilton, Bermuda, Her Excellency the Governor, Rena Lalgie, stood before scores of onlookers as she proclaimed His Majesty King Charles III as the new sovereign of the United Kingdom and all those that fall under the realm.
The occasion was marked with a 21-gun salute and the playing of the National Anthem with ceremonial precision by the Royal Bermuda Regiment and the Bermuda Police Service.
In the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Proclamation of the Reign of King Charles III was made at Waterloo, Grand Turk, by Governor Nigel Dakin in a solemn ceremony.
On Montserrat, in Salem Park, Her Excellency the Governor, Sarah Tucker read the Proclamation declaring His Majesty The King Charles III as Rightful and Lawful King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and his other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, and Defender of the Faith.
A rendition of God Save The King, a 21 Gun Salute and 3 Cheers for The King marked this significant moment in the history of the UK and Montserrat.
And in the Cayman Islands, Governor Martyn Roper had the enormous honour of reading the Proclamation of King Charles III at a ceremony outside Government House.
This followed the Proclamations in the UK at St James's Palace and the City of London, and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Following the reading of the Proclamation, each Governor declared “God Save the King”, which was followed by a rendition of the national anthem ‘God Save the King’ and a 21-gun salute.
