CARICOM Congratulates Grenada on its 48th Independence Anniversary
Grenada has received various congratulatory messages as the country marks its 48th anniversary of Independence with celebrations yesterday.
The Caribbean Community has congratulated Grenada on its Forty-Eighth Anniversary of Independence, noting its resolute movement along the development path.
CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett, in a congratulatory message to Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, also commended the country’s significant contribution to promoting regional integration.
The Secretary-General’s in her congratulatory message, says:
“There is much for the Government and People of Grenada to be proud of since achieving independence forty-eight years ago, as the country has moved firmly along the development path. Grenada’s contribution globally in academia, sports, culture and diplomacy is well documented.
The theme is chosen for this year’s festivities, “Overcoming our Adversity – Safeguarding Livelihoods – Protecting our Future”, speaks to the firm determination of all Grenadians to play an active role in the continued development and prosperity of their country.
Honourable Prime Minister Grenada continues to make significant contributions to promoting regional integration. In particular, the Community welcomes Grenada’s steadfast leadership on Science and Technology (including Information and Communications), for which you, Prime Minister, have portfolio responsibilities in the Quasi-Cabinet of the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government.
On behalf of the Caribbean Community, I offer sincere congratulations to the Government and People of Grenada on this important day of celebration.”
The United States has also issued congratulations.
US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken, in a message, says the United States appreciates Grenada’s regional leadership and partnership as they both work toward greater security, prosperity, and democracy.
He says this past year, the US government contributed more than $6 million to construct emergency operations centres in Grenada and Carriacou to boost their preparedness and disaster response capabilities.
“We have stood together to fight COVID-19 as the United States donated masks, gloves, hazmat suits, and other personal protection equipment to help keep the Grenadian people safe. We also partnered with the Royal Grenada Police Force Coast Guard to upgrade its nearshore interceptor vessels as part of our work together to improve security for citizens of Grenada and the region.”
The United States says it values the strong relationship between our two countries and wishes the citizens of Grenada a happy Independence Day.
And Nevis Premier Mark Brantley also issued congratulations to Grenada. He said: “Taking a moment to wish the government and people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, the land of spice, a Happy Independence Day.”
