Celebrity Summit cancels visit to St. Kitts
The Ministry of Tourism on the island of St. Kitts has announced that the Celebrity Summit that was scheduled to arrive at the island today Thursday, July 29, has been canceled its visit.
The reopening of the economy is off to an uncertain start after St Kitts-Nevis recorded the worse economic downturn in the Caribbean in 2020 with up to 18% DECLINE in the economy.
"The Celebrity Summit will not make their scheduled call to St. Kitts on Thursday 29th July 2021 at Port Zante," said the statement issued earlier this week.
The Minister of Tourism demanded that all tourism and port authority workers be vaccinated to ensure their safety for the reopening of the economy and the busy cruise season, but the reopening appears to be quite shaky. Unfortunately, the government has offered no reason for the cancellation.
The visit by the Celebrity Summit would have been the first visit to Port Zante since March 2020 when all cruise lines canceled visits to the twin-island Federation at the beginning of the pandemic crisis.
According to the government cruise lines scheduled for the month of August are still moving along as planned.
St. Kitts and Nevis have been listed as a level 3 on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Travel Health Notice.
