COVID-19: Five-month-old girl dies in Bahamas
Over the Independence holiday weekend, 141 new COVID-19 cases and two COVID-related deaths were reported in The Bahamas – 41 on Thursday, 49 on Friday, and 51 on Saturday.
One of the COVID deaths was a five-month-old girl from New Providence, who the Ministry of Health said passed away on June 26.
A 78-year-old woman from New Providence also died on July 3.
The latest incidents bring the total number of confirmed COVID-related deaths in The Bahamas to 254. Sixty-two people were reported to have died with COVID-19 but not because of it, while some 30 deaths are still being investigated.
Of the new cases, 120 were on New Providence, 11 on Grand Bahama, four on Eleuthera, three on Bimini, two on Andros, and one with a location pending.
So far, The Bahamas has confirmed 13,165 COVID-19 cases, 861 of which remain active.
Hospitalization numbers have continued to remain high, with 58 people hospitalized as of July 10, four of whom were in the ICU.
Eight people are hospitalized with COVID in Grand Bahama, and the rest are hospitalized in New Providence.
The test positivity rate has also been consistently high – 10.4 percent on Thursday, 9.6 percent on Friday, and 13.6 percent on Saturday.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that positivity rates remain below five percent for at least two weeks for countries to open their economies.
