Cuba has more than 7.5 mln internet users

The number of internet users in Cuba has surpassed 7.5 million, reported Xinhua, quoting a senior official here on Monday.

"We are on the way to transform our country digitally," Cuban Minister of Communications Mayra Arevich said at the opening session of the 18th International Convention and Fair "Informatics 2022."

"Currently, 80 per cent of people connected in Cuba get online through mobile internet," she added.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended the event's opening ceremony.

According to the Cuban Ministry of Communications, the Caribbean nation has added some 300,000 new internet users since the end of 2020.

The ministry also said that 97 out of the country's nearly 2,500 small and medium-sized enterprises operate in telecommunications and informatics.

Meanwhile, the government has adopted measures to extend digital TV across the island, benefiting some 3.6 million people, or roughly 32 per cent of Cuba's population.
