Dominica still searching for abducted minor, Kernisha Etienne
The search continues for 12-year-old Kernisha Etienne in Dominica. Prayers are being lifted daily as it is four days since Etienne was kidnapped from her home by suspect Kian Alexander, who has been described as a ‘suspected lunatic.’
The abduction has gripped the Commonwealth of Dominica as exhaustive searches are conducted across parts of the island to find the child and the suspect.
Today, Deputy Chief of Police Lincoln Corbett appealed for Kian Alexander to surrender himself and bring the child.
He also advised civilians assisting in the search that the objective is to get the young lady, and if they find Alexander, he should be taken to the police.
Corbett says the authorities have not received any credible lead yet regarding the young lady's whereabouts or suspect; regardless, they continue to push as hard as they can.
He says the police have been following as many leads as possible, with over 15 reported sightings being followed but none so far being successful.
Corbett says some of the leads have been strange leads and strange information, even people who have had visions, but they have followed them all as the police are taking no chances.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who received a face-to-face briefing from the police today, says the police remain committed to the task in the search and rescue efforts and that over 105 police officers have been assigned exclusively to the step.
Roosevelt says Dominica also continues to receive external help from the French and the RSS while discussions are being finalised for assistance from the US government.
He believes Dominica continues to remain a safe country.
On June 7, Kernisha was abducted from her home around 11:30 pm by Alexander and taken into the bushes of the community of Warner.
