Dominican Rep arrests ex-officers over 2022 drug bust at Paris ai
A former agent of the Dominican Republic’s National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and a former member of the Specialised Corps of Airport and Civil Security (CESAC) have been arrested in connection with a significant drug seizure that occurred at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport two years ago.
DNCD said an investigation, which was conducted with international partners, led to arrest warrants being issued for former agent, Yohansy Quezada Mejía and the former member of Cesac, Jorge Manuel Lebrón Aquino.
“According to the investigation, both were on duty on November 8, 2022, at one of the X-ray machines at the Las Américas International Airport, when a Spanish citizen managed to leave the country with the stash in two suitcases,” DNCD reported.
“Later, the foreigner Aurelio Coca Parra was arrested upon arriving at the airport in France, immediately initiating an exhaustive investigation that led to the arrest of the former members of the security agencies at the terminal of the Americas.”
Quezada Mejía and Lebrón Aquino have been handed over to the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction for prosecution.
DNCD added the case remains open and more people could be charged.
