Easter vacationers concerned about Tobago flights
Transportation to Tobago remains one of the major problems affecting tourism on the island. This concern was raised by many hotel operators with Guardian Media on Saturday.
A spokesman for Johnston Apartments at Store Bay said. At the same time, occupancy is up compared to last year; patrons had to rebook reservations because of difficulties securing flights to the island.
Kameel Ali, manager of Blue Horizon in Mt Irvine, said occupancy was up, but logistics remain a disincentive for visitors.
“The problem we are facing right now is the number of flights. Caribbean Airlines keep telling you there are so many seats, but when you go to the airport, there are no seats available,” he said.
Ali said the latest flight into Tobago is now at 8.30 pm as CAL has stopped all its late flights. He said this affects persons travelling abroad who must connect to Tobago.
At the beaches, crowds have been building up throughout the weekend. Kestor Kent, a lifeguard at Store Bay, said there were adequate human resources and resources to ensure the safety. However, he said it was still crucial for beachgoers to observe safety rules and to use only the beaches where lifeguards are stationed.
Patrons at Store Bay who spoke with Guardian Media said they had booked their sailing and flights early but hoped better systems would be implemented to get to and from Tobago during vacation periods.
