Felix Verdejo turns himself in after his pregnant lover was found dead
Boxer Felix Verdejo, a lightweight contender who represented Puerto Rico at the 2012 Olympic games, has been questioned in the disappearance of a pregnant woman — who was later found dead in a lagoon over the weekend, reports.
Verdejo was first brought in for questioning by police in Puerto Rico on Friday as “a person of interest” in the disappearance of Keishla Marlen Rodriguez, 27, who went missing Thursday,
He refused to answer questions, ESPN said.
On Sunday, authorities confirmed that the body of a woman found floating in Laguna San Jose Saturday was Rodriguez. Her family claimed the 27-year-old woman went missing after meeting with Verdejo to tell him she was pregnant, Spanish language newspaper El Vocero reported.
Authorities are now pushing to obtain cell phone records for both the boxer and Rodriguez, as Puerto Rican news outlet primers hora reported.
Verdugo, 27, is married. According to the lightweight, who went pro in 2012, has a 27-2 record with 17 knockouts, losing his most recent bout in December, when Masayoshi Nakatani knocked him out in Las Vegas, ESPN.

His promoter, Top Rank, said in a statement that they are “deeply disturbed” by the allegations surrounding Rodriguez’s death.
“Top Rank’s thoughts and prayers are with Keishla Marlen Rodriguez Ortiz’s family and friends, and with all those in mourning,” the statement said.
“We are deeply disturbed by the news reports, and we will continue to monitor developments in the case as it progresses.”
