Fisherman charged after being caught transporting marijuana in cornflakes boxes in SVG
A 60-year-old fisherman was arrested and fined after he was caught transporting marijuana in cornflakes boxes.
According to reports, on September 1, members of the RRU were conducting searches at the wharf in Union Island. The searches revealed 6,057 grams of cannabis concealed in seven cornflakes boxes on a boat.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), Rapid Response Unit (RRU) in Union Island conducted an operation at the wharf in Union Island. They discovered a quantity of marijuana concealed cornflakes boxes.
Derrick Abraham of Rose Bank/Grenada was arrested and charged with the controlled drugs to supply to another.
When cautioned, he initially said it was foodstuff for his kids before later admitting to it being cannabis.
Abraham appeared before the Serious Offences Court, where he pleaded guilty. He was fined EC $6,667.00 and ordered to pay $1,500 forthwith or face three months in prison.
The balance of $5,167 is to be paid by February 28, 2022, or he can face six months imprisonment.
