Five crew members rescued from sinking tug boat near Anguilla
Five crew members of a tugboat are lucky to be alive this morning after they were rescued from their sinking tugboat.
The crew of HMS Medway, a Royal Navy warship in the region, rescued the five people who had taken refuge on a large barge of sand their tug was towing when it began to flood.
According to Forces.net, the warship responded to the tug's SOS message, sent around 5 pm UK time on Friday, January 6, while it was 20 miles west of the island of Sint Maarten, near the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla.
HMS Medway responded to the call and rescued the crew taken to Anguilla.
HMS Medway operates across the Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico and into the Atlantic. It supports British Overseas Territories in the region, providing assistance in the wake of natural disasters and working with regional authorities to tackle the illegal narcotics trade.
