Former Guyanese Finance Minister arrested
Winston Jordan is the latest member of Guyana’s former government to be arrested on claims of misbehaviour in public office.
Officers of the Guyana Police Force’s Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU) arrested Jordan, who served as the Finance Minister in the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition government, when he visited a police station this morning.
Jordan was contacted last evening by SOCU and asked to turn himself in.
In the last few weeks, Jordan, who served as the Budget Director under several Peoples’ Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) administrations, had been accused of misconduct in public office by Attorney General Anil Nandlall.
He has denied all allegations made against him.
Jordan joins former Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson and Public Health Minister Volda Lawrence. They are currently facing fraud charges before the court, being the target of police investigations.
The APNU+AFC has accused the PPP/C of using the Guyana Police Force to silence and victimize its representatives.
