Four Vincentians awarded Chevening Scholarships
Four of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ brightest minds will be heading to the United Kingdom to further their education after they were selected for Chevening Scholarships.
The UK High Commission for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean said the quartet are among 14 brilliant minds to receive Chevening Scholarships from the sub-region.
Maxron Holder will head to the University of Edinburgh to pursue a Master of Laws degree in International Economic Law.
The holder is a former student of the University of the West Indies, and he currently works as an attorney.
The High Commission said Holder “wants to be an agent for change in the international economic relations of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the wider Caribbean Community.”
Youth activist and lawyer Nafesha Richardson is heading to the UK to study law.
Richardson will be studying for her LLM at the University College London.
The High Commission said Richardson “hopes to use her degree to evaluate trade and investment law and policy at the national, regional, and international levels — later reforming and modernising SVG and the wider Eastern Caribbean’s approach to trade and investment to meet international standards.”
Also heading to the UK is Shernell Hadaway.
Hadaway is a barrister-at-law and solicitor, legislative drafter, notary public and a certified mediator serving as the Legal Officer at SVG’s Medicinal Cannabis Authority.
She will pursue an MSc in Climate Change and Environmental Policy at the University of Leeds.
After completing her studies, Hadaway wants to become a climate change advocate promoting climate action and resilience within SVG.
Music lover and youth ambassador Shafique Sam will pursue an MSc in Economics, focusing on Development Economics.
When he returns home, Sam hopes to resume his job at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an economist.
