Grenada mourns passing of cultural icon Peter Bain
The carnival and cultural fraternity in Grenada have been plunged into mourning following the passing of mas man Peter Bain.
Bain was the owner of Rainbow City Mas Promoters. He passed away on Monday night.
In a statement, Spicemas Corporation (SMC) said Bain's unrelenting dedication to the development of carnival, sports, his community, and by extension, the parish of St Andrew is genuinely inspiring.
"Bain was a pillar of his community, a philanthropist, a beloved father, and a dedicated Mas Band Leader. As a Mas Band Leader, Bain produced mas for over 30 years and has captured many titles such as King of the Band, and Band of the Year in both the children and adult categories.
His love and dedication to Culture and the Artform is enough to consider him a Cultural Icon, whose services will be greatly missed."
Spicemas Corporation said Bain was a kind, creative, and very cooperative person who was very passionate about his work.
Bain did not limit his Mas production to Spicemas but extended his creativity to the Sister Isle of Carriacou every year for Kayak Mas.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts, Fisheries, and Co-operatives have extended condolences to Yolande Bain-Horsford, family, and friends on the passing of the cultural icon.
The ministry said for decades Bain has made sterling contributions to Grenada's sports and cultural landscape.
"His love and passion for culture were shown through hundreds of colorful costumes and creative presentations put together with his team at Rainbow City Mas Band, making an indelible mark to Grenada's carnivals Spicemas and Kayak mas."
The ministry added that he was admired and appreciated by many.
Bain leaves to mourn his wife, children, and 86 year-old mother.
