Grenada: Pedestrian dies in vehicular accident
A pedestrian lost his life in Grenada in a Monday vehicle accident.
The victim has been identified as Asher McIntyre, 32, of Mt Hartman, St George.
A report from the Royal Grenada Police Force said the accident involved a black Honda CR-V van and McIntyre, along the Maurice Bishop Highway, St George, during the early hours of March 6, 2023.
One man is in police custody assisting with investigations. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the actual cause of death.
Prime Minister of Grenada Dickon Mitchell has expressed condolences. In a statement, the passing of Asher McIntyre, the son of retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Sylvan McIntyre, deeply saddens him. Investigations into his sudden death are currently underway.
“No words can fully express the pain and sadness of such a loss,” Prime Minister Mitchell said. “I extend heartfelt condolences to the McIntyre family and all those who knew and loved Asher.”
The Prime Minister called on all road users to act responsibly, exercise caution and prioritise safety while navigating the nation’s roadways.
Meanwhile, the Grenada Body Building Weight Lifting and Fitness Association has also expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of known fitness enthusiast Asher McIntyre (son of ASP Sylvan McIntyre, also a known fitness instructor), who lost his life following an accident on Maurice Bishop Highway on Monday morning.
The association said, according to reports, he was on his regular morning jog when he was struck by a vehicle.
Also expressing condolences, St George’s Anglican Senior School (Hindsey) said it's a sad day for us; it mourns the passing of their beloved past student Asher McIntyre. “We extend our condolences to his family and friends. May his soul Rest in Peace.”
