Guyana: 13-year-old boy dead hours after he took his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine
A probe was launched after a 13-year-old boy died hours after he took his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Monday.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed the child’s death in a release. It noted that his cause of death would be determined when a specialized team, which includes Senior Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh, arrives in Moruca, Region 1 (Barima-Waini) to conduct an autopsy today.
MoH reported the teen, who has been identified in media reports as Joshua Henry, took the second-dose shot at 2 pm and "he was observed for an uneventful twenty minutes and showed no reaction to the vaccine".
Henry was allowed to leave for his home in Kamwatta.
But two hours later, the ministry said he felt faint and was taken to the Kumaka Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
MoH sent condolences to the bereaved family and friends and called on citizens "not to indulge in speculation and await the results of the post mortem and other-related investigations".
