Guyana: GECOM postpones Nomination Day for LGE 2023
The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has announced that it is postponing the Nomination Day exercise for next year’s Local Government Elections until further.
Nomination Day was scheduled to be held on December 12, 2022.
“This decision was taken at a special meeting of the Commission held on Thursday, 8th December 2022, which was held to deliberate on a proposal submitted by the Chief Election Officer (CEO), Vishnu Persaud, to conduct an Exercise to correct the Registers of Voters for Local Government Elections under Section 24A of the Local Authorities (Elections) Act, Chapter 28:03. Subject to further deliberations on this matter, which has been deemed necessary by the Commission, information on the way forward would be share on time, with all stakeholders,” GECOM said in a statement
Guyanese are set to head to the polls on March 13, 2023, to elect new mayors and local government representatives.
