Guyana: Police seize cocaine hidden in religious items
A 23-year-old Guyanese woman was arrested yesterday for allegedly trying to export cocaine hidden in religious things.
The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) reported that it received information that many drugs were being exported via a package stored at the DHL Headquarters in Georgetown.
On examining a package containing Hindu religious items, parcels of cocaine were discovered in hidden compartments.
“The sender’s information retrieved from the package led to the arrest of a female,” CANU said.
Lisa Ramnarine was taken to CANU headquarters, where the packages she allegedly sent were dismantled in her presence.
Cops conducted field tests and confirmed the packages confirmed cocaine.
She was subsequently detained until her court appearance.
CANU said cocaine weighed 540 grams.
