Guyana: Two sisters arrested after major drug bust at Itaballi Landing
Police have taken two sisters into custody following the discovery of over 3,000 grams of suspected marijuana at Itaballi Landing in Region 7.
The arrests occurred during a Thursday night operation when police conducted a search at approximately 10pm.
According to police reports, officers at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint acted on information received and searched a local shop owned by Susan Miguel, 53, along with her sister Coreena Miguel, 37. While the initial search of the shop yielded no findings, officers discovered three brown compressed parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis in a five-gallon bucket located approximately two feet away on the northern side under a water trestle.
The suspected cannabis, which weighed 3,060 grams when measured at the Bartica Police Station, was found despite both sisters denying any knowledge of the narcotics.
Both Susan and Coreena Miguel are currently being held at the Bartica Police Station where they are "assisting with the investigation."
The discovery came after the sisters had granted police permission to search the premises for drugs, firearms, and ammunition.
