Guyanese parents urged to vaccinate their kids before new school term
Guyana’s Ministry of Health advises parents of children between the ages of 12 and 17 to vaccinate them against coronavirus (COVID-19) during the upcoming Easter break.
At today’s COVID-19 update, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony lamented that the government “continues to have some challenges” with the age group as parents are not allowing their children to be vaccinated.
“Every parent should be concerned that if your child is not vaccinated, then there will be that risk of getting the infection; although in children, we have seen a milder form of the infection. Nevertheless, we want to offer our children maximum protection,” Anthony said.
The government has opened many vaccination sites at schools to allow children to be inoculated. But the vaccines can only be given with parental consent.
Data released by the minister showed 34,115 children had received one dose while 24,756 were fully vaccinated.
The minister reminded parents that while infections have decreased in Guyana, COVID-19 is still present and is sending people to the hospital.
