Haiti: Fire at a gas station, many injuries and considerable damage
In Bon-Repos (Commune of Croix-des-Bouquets), around 8:00 a.m., a fire broke out in a Diesel National Company gas station located opposite Cassandra Market.
The violent fire caused considerable damage; in addition to the service station, the fire destroyed many vehicles, three buses and several dozen motorcycles.
The arrival of the firefighters on the spot made it possible to contain the fire but not to prevent damage. It was only thanks to the reinforcement of the firefighters of Port-au-Prince and Tabarre that the fire was brought under control,
An unknown number of people were burned to varying degrees, the panic around the fire prevented a human assessment of the situation, and the most severe burns were rushed to the hospital.
So far, no deaths have been confirmed.
According to residents, illegal merchants of petroleum products near the pump could cause the disaster.
However, for Me Roosevelt Zamor, the Government Commissioner of Croix-des-Bouquets who visited the site, it was a van that had just filled up, which could be the cause of the accident.
According to the first information collected, the driver to start his vehicle would have opened his hood, and it was the contact between two wires that would have caused sparks and started the fire. Me Zamor announced the opening of an investigation.
