High winds and rough seas alert issued for Grenada
The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) has alerted Grenadians for adverse weather and sea conditions that will affect the country this carnival weekend.
NaDMA stated the adverse weather and sea conditions caused by a high-pressure system north of the Caribbean support moderate winds, which may gust at times and produce rough seas.
“The forecast is for the state of Grenada to experience north-easterly to easterly winds at 15 to 25mph gusting to 45mph with rough seas and waves up to 11 feet in open waters, which will continue throughout the weekend. Improvements are expected on Monday, 20th February 2023,” NaDMA said last evening.
“All marine users are advised to exercise caution when venturing out at sea!”
With Kayak Mas festivities this weekend, NaDMA urges everyone planning to visit the sister isle of Carriacou to be extra cautious when venturing out to sea.
Head of the Coast Guard ASP Watson Edwards is encouraging sea users to be mindful of the following:
- No overloading of vessels
- Have life jackets for everyone on board
- Radios and GPS should be in working condition.
- Have an adequate backup supply of fuel
- Always inform the family of departure and arrival times
