Hurricane Tammy causes little damage after making landfall on Barbuda

While Hurricane Tammy initially appeared to pose a significant threat to the twin islands of Antigua and Barbuda, its impact upon making landfall on Barbuda last night turned out to be relatively minor.
Around 8 p.m., as Antigua encountered moderate winds, Barbuda was confronted with powerful gusts that led to a complete power outage.
The storm steadily gained strength as it neared Barbuda, culminating in the development of Category 1 hurricane conditions by 9 p.m.
At 9:15 pm., the hurricane's eye arrived on Barbuda, where estimated maximum sustained wind speeds reached 85 mph.
Throughout the island, heavy rains and strong winds persisted. Reports from Barbuda merely indicate instances of flooding and damage to trees and utility lines, underscoring the island's resilience and the preparedness of its residents, who managed to weather the storm with relative ease.
Meanwhile, the residents of Antigua were fortunate to escape the hurricane's impact, and the Hurricane warning for Antigua was lifted at 11 p.m.
Nevertheless, a flood watch remains in effect for both Barbuda and Antigua, as there is still a potential for flooding due to rainbands moving northward.
