184140 formal jobs were generated in Brazil last month
Brazil created 184,140 net formal jobs in March, according to data from the General Census of Employed and Unemployed released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Economy.
In March, Net job growth was slightly more than the 180,000 forecasts in a Reuters poll of economists, and the highest figure for that month since 2010, Economy Ministry figures showed.
The report specified that such a result was possible because of 1,608,007 new hires and 1,423,867 dismissals in the period assessed.
At the onset of the Covid-19 impact on the economy, 276,350 jobs were closed in the same month in 2020.
"More great news on the economic front. Every sector, every region, every state created jobs, unlike the first wave of the pandemic last year," Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said in an online address.
‘Likewise, the most outstanding was the sector most affected by the pandemic, the services sector. Of the 184,000jobs, almost half, 95,000, were created in the services sector,’ he assured.
These figures do not include the near-40 million undocumented workers in Brazil who do not have formal employment registration.
The minister pointed out that ‘the last sector of the economy that was down has picked up, and the Brazilian economy continues to create new jobs.’
The total number of formally registered workers in Brazil rose to 40.2 million in March, the highest since September 2015, according to historical data on the central bank's website.
Earnings rose, with the average monthly salary of new jobs created up to an unadjusted 1,802.65 reais ($333), the highest since last September.
February's 401,639 net gain was revised down to 395,166, which means that month is no longer a record, ministry figures showed.
