Lockdowns and curfews come to an end in The Bahamas
Effective November 13 in The Bahamas, there will be no curfews or lockdowns in place under the new Health Services (COVID-19) (Prevention and Management of Community Spread) Rules 2021.
Lockdowns and curfews were in place for the past 18 months to help stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic by the last administration. A series of health rules will now be maintained.
Health Minister Dr Michael Darville held a media conference last evening where he addressed the ending of the State of Emergency.
Dr Darville said going forward; amended rules will form the regulatory framework to manage the COVID pandemic.
He said the new legislation provides clear and specific guidance regarding the prevention and management of community spread of the virus, proving that ‘we are moving in the right direction.’
The health minister said it also addresses the management of COVID-19 in The Bahamas, essential protocols and health protocols for businesses, social gatherings, and other activities.
It also outlines the process for enforcement of these rules and penalties for non-compliance.
He added the new legislation gives the government the flexibility to make changes to these rules as the parameters of the pandemic changes.
The health minister, in his address, also urged all Bahamians to get vaccinated.
