Magnum All-Star Sound Clash enters knockout round

The Magnum All-Star Sound Clash enters the Knockout Round today.

Last Friday was the final round of the preliminaries where Black Magic Sound triumphed over the Road Kode Sound after their stellar clash performance.

A number of patrons turned up at the venue showing support with the blaring of their horns and clanging of their pot covers while enjoying the taunting of the MCs and their witty dubs.

Black Magic was the clear crowd favourite from the start, given the response from their fans who were pleased with the judge's decision.

The Magnum All-Star Sound Clash is a competition aimed at showcasing sound clash culture in Jamaica.

The clash is held weekly at the All-Star Headquarters on 153 Olympic Way. The competition is expected to heat up this week as the Knockout Round begins with Unruly Stumpy and Ruff Cut competing for the winning spot.

For the next four weeks, one sound will be eliminated while the other will advance to the semi-finals.

According to the promoter of the event, Cheiftin Campbell, the competition is gaining more popularity each week.

“I am very impressed with the growing numbers each week. Jamaicans love sports, they enjoy competition and for the dancehall space, there is no bigger sport than this,” he shared.

The competition features eight sound groups, which include: Ruff Cut, Twin Star (Canada), Five Star, Rode Code, Black Magic, Echo One, Unruly Stumpy, and Rispec Jam (Japan).

Regional marketing manager at J Wray & Nephew Ltd, Kamal Powell, said the team is impressed with the talent showcased thus far.

“We are very pleased with the talent that we have seen over the past four weeks, and we can’t wait to see who will advance to the semi-finals. Soundclash is a big part of dancehall culture in Jamaica, and we are happy that we are a part of this project,” he said.

At the end of the competition, the winners will walk away with a cash prize of $1,000,000 courtesy of Magnum Tonic Wine, a trophy, the best sound system title, and bragging rights.
